Long hours on laptops and phones, late-night messages and constant deadlines leave many people in Abu Dhabi tired but unable to sleep. Ayurveda links this “wired and tired” state to excess Vata and Pitta – too much movement and heat in the mind. The good news: small daily habits make a real difference, and a few clinic therapies can help you reset.
An Ayurvedic evening routine
- Eat a light dinner at least two to three hours before bed.
- Dim the lights and put screens away 45–60 minutes before sleep.
- Massage a little warm oil into the soles of your feet and scalp – a traditional calming practice.
- Drink warm milk with a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom if it suits you.
- Aim to be in bed by around 10:30 pm; Ayurveda considers the hours before midnight the most restful.
Care for tired eyes
- Follow the 20-20-20 habit: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
- Splash your closed eyes with cool (not cold) water during the day.
- Ask our doctors about Netra Dhara and Netra Tarpanam for screen-strained eyes.
Food and drinks
Reduce caffeine after midday, avoid energy drinks, and choose warm, regular meals. Skipping meals and eating late both unsettle Vata.
Clinic therapies
- Shirodhara – warm oil poured over the forehead, traditionally used for stress and sleep.
- Abhyanga – full body oil massage.
- Takra Dhara and Thalapothichil – cooling head therapies when heat and irritability are part of the picture.
